It happened! We organized an event for people to protest the Trump administration and its cruel, chaotic attacks on our freedoms and our communities, and you showed up! Wow, did you show up! Attendance numbers vary, but our best estimate is 40-45,000 people! 

And we weren’t alone here in St Paul. There were 50 or more events throughout the State. Reports have come in for as many as 5 million people across the country showing up to tell Trump to take his hands off our Medicaid, Social Security, our bodies, our jobs, our economy, our DEI initiatives, immigrants, our schools, our courts, our environment, our data – the list goes on.

We came together united in purpose. See how strong we are together! The people have the power, and now that we have seen that, we will channel it into action and into standing up for and with each other. There is a long way to go to win this one! We can do it, but it’s going to take all of us! Stay tuned for more opportunities!

Trump and project 2025 are coming for the rights of all marginalized groups including women, Trans & LGBQ. Gender Justice works to create a world where everyone can thrive no matter their gender, gender identity or expression, or sexual orientation. Central to this work is dismantling the legal, political, and structural barriers to gender equity. This includes Economic Justice, Reproductive Freedom & Justice, Freedom from Gender-Based Violence and Trans & LGBQ Liberation. We must stand in solidarity and make sure we do not let centuries of fighting be lost to those who wish to be intolerant.

At #ThePeoplesMarch in St. Paul on January 18th, 2025, we heard from Alicia Granse, Staff Attorney at the ACLU of Minnesota. During Trump’s first term, the ACLU filed 434 actions against him in court. Now once again, the ACLU is working harder than ever to fight his cruel and dangerous agenda.

At #ThePeoplesMarch in St. Paul on January 18th, 2025, our first speaker was MN State Senator Mary Kunesh (39, DFL). Mary is an Indigenous women’s advocate, chief author of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and a champion for gender equality under law. The ERA must be passed to protect the rights of ALL Minnesotans, especially the marginalized communities that Trump is targeting with his cruel executive orders.

The proposed ERA language states: All persons shall be guaranteed equal rights under the laws of this state. The state shall not discriminate against any person in intent or effect on account of race, color, national origin, ancestry, disability, or sex, including but not limited to pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes and reproductive freedom, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.

Thank you to the wonderful performers, the powerful speakers and emcee who inspired us to action, and the fantastic organizations who partnered with us on this event, gave us actions to share, and spent time talking with marchers in the rotunda. Thank you to ALL the many volunteers who worked so hard to organize and put on the event, from beginning to end - program, fundraising, logistics, partnerships, communications, marshals, event setup, and volunteer recruitment. Thank you to everyone who supported the People’s March through donations. And thank you to EVERYONE who showed up for the event in the deep cold and made it clear that we will stand together to defend, protect, and fight for the rights of our families, friends, neighbors, and fellow Minnesotans!

This week, ERA Minnesota invited me to testify with them to support their bills in the Minnesota House and Senate. (One bill asks legislators to put the Equal Rights Amendment on the ballot to let voters decide if the ERA should be part of the Minnesota constitution. The other bill would send a resolution to Congress urging them to ratify the federal ERA.) I testified with my mom and my youngest daughter – three generations of one family experiencing life without equal rights.
