What type of organization is WMM?
Women’s March Minnesota is an independent stand alone IRS designated 501(c)(3) organization. Designation granted in February of 2018.
Who “runs” WMM?
How are decisions made about what issues to support?
WMM has its own independent Board of Directors. The nonprofit is 100% volunteer run and led. Decisions are made in alignment with our Unity Principles.
What is WMM’s focus?
WMM has focused all activities, organizing, and actions on the State of Minnesota, under the direction and guidance of a Minnesota-based Board of Directors and the January March Advisory Board.
The fight for equity, equality, and justice resides in all communities. Women's March Minnesota is committed to ensuring that the voices of women from all backgrounds and identities are heard. We seek to forge new alliances that will enable us to work together for equal justice in the months and years ahead.
WMM does not tolerate discrimination of any kind.
We believe that women’s rights are human rights. We must create a society in which women — including Black, Native, disabled, those living in poverty, immigrant, Muslim, Jewish, and queer and trans women — are free and able to care for and nurture their families, however they are formed, in safe and healthy environments free from barriers.
Our goal at Women's March Minnesota is to know when to listen and when to lead. As a women's organization dedicated to intersectional feminism, and protecting the rights of Minnesota women, we work to raise the voices of the strong, dedicated groups doing important social justice, human rights and equality work in Minnesota.
Does WMM get money from Women’s March national?
WMM received a one-time $10,000 donation from WMI to support the 2018 Power to the Polls campaign, all of which was given as small grants for the get-out-the-vote activities to local organizations. All other activities and events have been funded through local fundraising.
Does WMM have relationships with local organizations?
One of our guiding principles within Women's March Minnesota is to know when to listen and when to lead. As a women's organization dedicated to Intersectional feminism, and protecting the rights of Minnesota women, we work to raise the voices of the strong, dedicated groups doing important social justice, human rights and equality work in Minnesota.

How does WMM make and spend money?
As a 501(c)(3) organization, all donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. WMM raises funds through requests for donations, event fundraising, and merchandise sales.
Donations to WMM stay in our local communities through donations to organizations and help provide technical infrastructure for ongoing operations.
What is WMM’s connection to the national Women’s March?
WMM is not affiliated with WMI. It started in 2016 as a “Sister March” and has grown and evolved as a stand-alone organization since January of 2017.
How does being unaffiliated change Women’s March MN?
You won’t see substantial change. We are keeping the name Women’s March MN and the branding. We will continue to set our own agenda and priorities that best suit the people of Minnesota.
