Comfortable at the Capitol Event

Our first Comfortable at the Capitol event was a hit. We were able to partake in the MN Zoo day at the Capitol and met several MN House members, including Representative Erin Maye Quade and Representative Ilhan Omar, while mingling with ant eaters, turtles and chinchillas.

The MN House of Information walked us through the array of non-partisan resources they have available for activists, how to receive live feeds for House sessions and daily schedules for committee meetings and the recap of the days events.

We literally rubbed elbows with Minority Leader Hortman on her way to caucus with her party and witnessed Olympian Jesse Diggins receive a proclamation on the MN House Floor first hand as we viewed the session from the House Gallery.

We completed the day with a literal top to bottom tour with an expert that helped spearhead all of the Capitol renovations to get his unique insights and back stage look. Look for our next Comfortable at the Capitol event to learn how to feel more at ease in “the people’s House.”

Comfortable at the Capitol is a series of opportunities for Women’s March Volunteers to come meet legislators, learn about how things work at the Capitol-from how to know when committees meet on issues that matter to you, how to testify & how to make a real impact in getting votes out of committee and onto the floor for a vote.
